FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

How does MGM 109 Type 3023 differ from Type 3123?
Both are 1.9/3.3 kV 3-core double-wire-armoured (DWA) mining feeder cables. Type 3023 has unscreened ('0') GP4 EPR insulated cores with collective earth screening provided by the DWA armour, whereas Type 3123 adds an individual helically lapped copper tape screen ('1') over each phase core.
Why does Type 3023 have a smaller outside diameter and lighter weight than Type 3123?
Omitting the individual copper tape phase screens and core-screen bedding tapes reduces the laid-up diameter by approximately 2 to 2.5 mm, allowing easier entry into standard 3.3 kV BS 6708 bolted cable couplers. Each production drum undergoes 100 % conductor DC resistance verification, insulation
How is the ≥ 75 % earth conductance requirement satisfied on Type 3023?
On cross-sections up to 50 mm², the cross-sectional area of the two galvanized steel wire armour layers naturally exceeds 75 % of one copper phase conductor. On 70 mm² to 185 mm² cables, tinned copper wires are substituted into the inner armour layer to guarantee ≥ 75 % conductance.
When should I choose Type 3023 (DWA) over Type 3013 (SWA)?
Choose Type 3023 (DWA) for vertical shaft drops, steep inclines, and dynamic longwall gate roads where rock-fall crush and tensile suspension forces occur. Choose Type 3013 (SWA) for permanent horizontal roadways and surface colliery substations. Each production drum undergoes 100 % conductor DC resistance
