FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why is Double Wire Armour (DWA) mandatory for vertical mine shafts instead of Single Wire Armour (SWA)?
When a heavy cable is suspended vertically over hundreds of metres in a mine shaft, a single helical armour layer tends to untwist under its own weight, transferring tensile strain and birdcaging onto the internal copper pairs; MGM 110 DWA winds the inner and outer galvanized steel wire layers in opposite helical directions so their rotational torques cancel out.
How does DWA improve survival in active longwall gate roads and blasting zones?
The two concentric layers of galvanized steel wire separated by an inter-armour bedding absorb more than twice the kinetic rockfall impact energy and radial crush load of single-armoured cable without pinching the internal PE communication pairs. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
Can MGM 110 DWA be supplied in continuous un-spliced lengths for deep vertical shafts?
Yes, we manufacture MGM 110 DWA in custom continuous shaft lengths (e.g., 600 m, 800 m, or 1,200 m) on heavy steel shipping drums to eliminate vulnerable mid-shaft junction boxes. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
Is a low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) version available for main intake air shafts?
Yes, MGM 110 DWA-LSZH replaces both the inner bedding and outer PVC sheath with halogen-free flame-retardant compounds compliant with IEC 60332-3-22, IEC 60754-1/2, and IEC 61034. Each production reel undergoes sweep-frequency impedance and return-loss verification, dielectric spark testing, and dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 test certificate.
