FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why do standard office USB 3.0 cables fail rapidly on machine vision cameras?
Consumer USB cables use stiff 7-strand conductors, thin PVC jackets, and 28 AWG power wires. In an industrial drag chain, the shield fractures and intra-pair skew drifts within a few thousand cycles, causing dropped camera frames, while high DC resistance drops the 5 V bus below the camera minimum operating threshold.
How does the 90 Ω twinax SDP construction preserve 5 Gbps / 10 Gbps eye opening?
Each SuperSpeed transmit (TX+/TX-) and receive (RX+/RX-) channel is extruded as a matched foamed-PE twinax pair wrapped in its own longitudinal Al/PET foil with a dedicated drain wire. This holds differential impedance at 90 Ω ± 7 Ω and keeps intra-pair delay skew below 15 ps/m even during tight 7.5×D flexing.
Why are the VBUS and GND power conductors oversized to 20 AWG or 22 AWG?
Industrial CMOS USB3 Vision cameras draw up to 900 mA to 1.5 A at 5 V DC. Using 20 AWG (55 Ω/km) or 22 AWG (88 Ω/km) power cores cuts IR voltage drop by more than 65 % compared with 28 AWG, allowing reliable 5 m to 8 m passive cable lengths without external camera power supplies.
Can this cable be terminated with screw-locking USB3 Vision Micro-B and Type-C plugs?
Yes. Both the 5.6–7.3 mm outer diameters and the internal SDP twinax breakouts are sized for AIA-compliant M2 screw-locking USB 3.0 Micro-B, Type-A, and USB Type-C industrial camera overmolds. Each production reel undergoes 100 % characteristic impedance verification, mutual capacitance and DC loop resistance testing, and dielectric spark/withstand inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
