FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why must reusable electrosurgical cables use platinum-cured silicone instead of standard peroxide-cured silicone?
Peroxide-cured industrial silicone leaves acidic cross-linking decomposition residues that leach out ('bloom') as a white powder during steam autoclaving, failing ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity tests and turning yellow and brittle. Platinum-cured (addition-cured) medical silicone produces zero volatile by-products, passes USP Class VI and ISO 10993-5 biocompatibility, and retains its elasticity across 300–500+ +134 °C steam sterilization cycles.
What electrical requirements does IEC 60601-2-2 impose on reusable HF surgical cables?
Because electrosurgical generators deliver 300 kHz to 4 MHz waveforms with open-circuit coagulation peaks up to 4,000–5,000 Vp, IEC 60601-2-2 Clause 201.8.8.3.102–104 requires the cable insulation to pass both power-frequency and high-frequency dielectric breakdown tests after sterilization conditioning while limiting high-frequency capacitive leakage current so nearby tissue or the surgeon's glove is never burned.
How do you prevent the silicone jacket from feeling sticky or dragging on surgical drapes?
Standard silicone rubber has a high coefficient of friction that snags on sterile surgical drapes and attracts lint. HF SABmed S incorporates a permanent vulcanised low-friction matte surface finish that glides smoothly across drapes and instrument trays without topical talc or silicone-oil coatings that would wash off in the washer-disinfector.
What is the difference between HF SABmed S and standard SABmed S Connecting Cable?
HF SABmed S has reinforced high-voltage RF core insulation (up to 5.0 kVp) and low-capacitance geometry specifically for high-frequency electrosurgical cutting/coagulation (IEC 60601-2-2). Standard SABmed S Connecting Cable is optimized for low-voltage multi-core patient monitoring, SPO2, ECG, ultrasound and endoscopic camera signals (2–24 cores, screened or unscreened).
