Application fit

Is CERAFIL CN8 right for your machine?

Specify CERAFIL CN8 when operating temperatures exceed the +450 °C ceiling of E-glass/mica cables (Type MG / UL 5170) — up to +800/+1000 °C continuous inside furnaces, kilns, and radiant heaters.

Furnace, kiln & high-temp zone

Suitable

Pure Nickel 200 core and ceramic fibre braid operate continuously at +800 to +1000 °C (+1200 °C peak) without melting.

Switchgear & control cabinet wiring

Suitable

Direct connection lead for silicon-carbide/molybdenum-disilicide heating elements, cartridge heaters, and kiln thermocouples.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Inorganic phlogopite mica and ceramic yarn insulation is 100 % non-combustible and zero-halogen.

Immersion & wet locations

Not suitable

Unsealed ceramic braid is hygroscopic and meant for dry hot zones; protect against liquid moisture during cold standby.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why must CERAFIL CN8 use a pure Nickel 200 conductor instead of nickel-plated copper above +450 °C?
Above +450 °C, copper atoms rapidly diffuse through a thin nickel plating (Kirkendall effect), causing severe oxidation and embrittlement of the copper core. Pure Nickel 200 (≥ 99.2 % Ni, melting point +1453 °C) forms a stable protective oxide film and operates continuously up to +800/+1000 °C.
How do I size CERAFIL CN8 given pure nickel's higher electrical resistance?
Pure Nickel 200 has a resistivity of ~0.096 Ω·mm²/m at +20 °C (about 5.5 times higher than copper) and a positive temperature coefficient at furnace temperatures. Always size the conductor cross-section using the +600/+800 °C derated current column in our electrical table.
Why does CERAFIL CN8 use alumino-silicate ceramic fibre instead of standard E-glass braid?
Standard E-glass fibres begin to soften, devitrify, and lose mechanical strength around +500 °C to +550 °C. Alumino-silicate (Al₂O₃-SiO₂) and high-silica ceramic yarns retain textile strength continuously at +800 °C to +1000 °C (+1200 °C peak).
How should CERAFIL CN8 be terminated at the heating element and cold junction?
Use pure nickel ring terminals, high-temperature nickel-chromium screw clamps, or TIG/spot welding at the hot end, and seal the cold-end braid transition with high-temperature ceramic cement or silicone sleeving outside the furnace.
