FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What does the second cross-section number in NHXCH 4×25/16 mean?
In NHXCH 4×25/16, the first figure (4×25 mm²) specifies the four insulated phase/neutral conductors, while the second figure (/16 mm²) gives the effective geometrical copper cross-section of the concentric copper wire and counter-helix tape screen surrounding the core bundle.
How is the concentric conductor used in NHXCH installations?
The concentric copper conductor serves simultaneously as the protective earth (PE) or PEN conductor and as a 100 % radial metallic screen. If a nail or drill penetrates the cable, it contacts the earthed concentric copper layer first, tripping upstream protection immediately.
Why do NHXCH cores follow the -O colour code without a green/yellow core?
Because the concentric copper wire screen surrounding the inner bedding acts as the dedicated protective earth (PE) or PEN conductor, the insulated inner cores are used purely for phases and neutral (blue, brown, black, grey per HD 308 S2).
Can NHXCH feed variable-frequency drives (VFDs) for emergency smoke extraction fans?
Yes. The 360-degree concentric copper wire layer with counter-helix equalizing tape provides low transfer impedance and symmetrical return path geometry, making NHXCH ideal for VFD-driven E90 smoke extraction and pressurisation fans.
