VFD inverter to AC motor screened feeder
Collective copper screen combined with SWA armour provides EMC screening against 25 kV 50 Hz AC OLE traction interference.
Product
NR Type E1 and E2 UK Network Rail screened and armoured trackside signalling cable (NR/PS/SIG/00005, 650/1100 V AC, -25 to +85 °C) for 25 kV AC OLE routes, with tinned copper cores, GP4 EPR insulation, copper screen, SWA armour, and EM2 PCP sheath.
Typical values for this cable type, based on Network Rail NR/PS/SIG/00005 (formerly RT/E/PS/00005) Type E1 / E2 Screened SWA — confirmed in the datasheet and quotation for your order.
Application fit
Select NR Type E1 and NR Type E2 for 25 kV AC overhead-line-electrified (OLE) corridors, direct-buried under-track crossings (UTX), and vandal-exposed trackside routes requiring both EMC screening and steel wire armour.
Collective copper screen combined with SWA armour provides EMC screening against 25 kV 50 Hz AC OLE traction interference.
SWA armour and EM2 PCP inner/outer sheaths protect against ballast crushing, direct burial loads, and rodent/vandal damage.
GP4 EPR core insulation plus elastomeric bedding and EM2 polychloroprene outer sheath withstand flooded UTX ducts and trackside trenches.
Steel-wire-armoured trackside cable is strictly for fixed railway infrastructure routing.

NR/PS/SIG/00005 Type E1 / E2 construction: tinned copper conductors, BS 7655 GP4 EPR insulation (white numbered cores), collective copper screen, elastomeric bedding sheath, galvanised steel wire armour (SWA), and BS 7655 EM2 black PCP outer sheath.
| # | Layer | Material & reference |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tinned copper conductors | Tinned annealed copper per BS EN 60228 (1.5 mm² 30/0.25 mm Class 5; 2.5 mm² to 35 mm² stranded)Corrosion-resistant conductors matching Network Rail termination standards |
| 2 | Type GP4 EPR core insulation | 85 °C ethylene-propylene rubber compound Type GP4 to BS 7655-1.2 (white with black numbers)650/1100 V rated insulation tested at 3,500 V AC for 5 minutes |
| 3 | Collective copper EMC screen | Helically applied tinned copper tape/wire collective screen over the core assemblyProvides a low-impedance earth path for 25 kV AC traction-induced currents |
| 4 | Elastomeric armour bedding | Extruded elastomeric inner sheath separating the copper screen from the steel armourCushions the core and prevents galvanic contact between copper screen and SWA |
| 5 | Galvanised steel wire armour (SWA) | Single layer of galvanised round steel wires per BS EN 10257-1High tensile and crush protection for direct burial and troughless routing |
| 6 | Type EM2 heavy-duty PCP sheath | Black polychloroprene elastomer compound Type EM2 to BS 7655-2.1Resists trackside oils, UV, moisture, and flame propagation |
