FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What does the Russian designation KGE (КГЭ) mean?
In the GOST cable coding system, 'К' stands for Кабель (cable), 'Г' stands for Гибкий (flexible), and 'Э' stands for Экранированный (screened) for excavator service (экскаваторный). It is the standard 6 kV open-pit electric shovel and dragline trailing cable across CIS mines. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
How is KGE screened to protect open-pit shovel operators?
Each 6 kV power core has both an inner semi-conductive rubber layer over the conductor and an outer semi-conductive rubber screen over the insulation. All three phase screens sit in continuous contact with the central semi-conductive rubber cradle and the uninsulated or semi-conductive-covered earth core.
What is the difference between KGE, KGET, and KGESh?
KGE (КГЭ) is the standard 6 kV open-pit excavator cable for temperate and cold climates (-40 °C, or -60 °C in KGE-HL). KGET (КГЭТ) is the tropical-grade 6–10 kV open-pit excavator cable resistant to mould, termites, and equatorial solar radiation, while KGESh (КГЭШ) is the 660/1140 V underground mine cable.
Why is KGE tested at 15 kV AC during factory routine testing?
Under GOST 13497, 6 kV open-pit mining networks operate with isolated or resonant-grounded neutrals where single-phase earth faults elevate healthy phases to full line voltage. The 15 kV rms 5-minute routine test verifies a high dielectric safety margin. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
