FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why specify an Industrial Breakout Fiber Optic Cable instead of a loose-tube cable?
Each optical fibre in a breakout cable is enclosed in its own 900 µm tight buffer, polyaramid strength yarn, and 2.0 mm individual sub-jacket. Technicians can strip back the outer jacket at a switchgear cabinet or patch panel and crimp LC, SC, or ST connectors directly onto each 2.0 mm sub-unit without splice trays, pigtails, or breakout fan-out kits.
Should we choose the LSZH or the PUR outer jacket option?
Select the flame-retardant LSZH jacket (IEC 60332-3-24, IEC 60754-2, IEC 61034-2) for indoor substation rooms, tunnels, and building risers where low smoke and zero halogen emissions are mandatory. Select the polyether PUR jacket where the cable is exposed to cutting fluids, mineral oils, abrasion, or outdoor mechanical wear on machinery.
Can this breakout cable be factory pre-terminated with connectors and pulling eyes?
Yes. Because each 2.0 mm simplex sub-cable carries its own aramid yarn strain relief rated to 400 N, we can supply custom lengths pre-terminated with staggered LC, SC, ST, or FC connectors inside a removable IP67 corrugated pulling sock for rapid plug-and-play installation.
What optical fibre grades are supported inside the 2.0 mm breakout sub-units?
We build all configurations from 2 to 24 cores with bend-insensitive ITU-T G.657.A1 (OS2) single-mode fibres or laser-optimised 50/125 µm OM3 and OM4 (or 62.5/125 µm OM1) multimode fibres, as well as hybrid single-mode plus multimode combinations in a single sheath.
