FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the difference between BRUsens DTS BSSA M and BRUsens DTS BSTE M?
Both use a hermetically laser-welded 316L stainless-steel central FIMT and helical steel wire armour ('M'). BSSA M is a compact Ø 4.6 mm single-armour design (3.5 kN tensile, 5.0 kN/100 mm crush) for conduits, trays and mining conveyors, whereas BSTE M is a heavier Ø 6.0–6.5 mm design (7.0–7.5 kN tensile, 7.0 kN/100 mm crush) for direct trench burial, concrete dams and downhole grouting.
How does BSTE/BSSA M ensure that ground movement does not cause false temperature readings?
The optical fibres are stranded inside the 316L stainless-steel tube with 0.20–0.35 % excess fibre length (EFL), while the surrounding steel wire armour absorbs up to 7,500 N of external tension. Even in Brillouin DTS systems (which are sensitive to both strain and temperature), the fibres remain completely strain-free.
Can we order BSTE/BSSA M with 316L stainless-steel armour wires instead of galvanized steel?
Yes. For subsea landfalls, saline coastal trenches, acid-leach heaps and sour leachate ponds, we supply both the central FIMT and the outer armour wires in AISI 316L stainless steel.
What continuous drum lengths can be manufactured?
We supply continuous splice-free drum lengths of 2,000 m, 4,000 m and up to 6,000 m on fumigated wooden or steel reels.
