FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why must high-temperature DTS cables use dry (gel-free) stainless-steel tubes and carbon/polyimide-coated fibres?
Standard acrylate fibre coatings oxidize and strip above +85 °C, while thixotropic hydrocarbon gels decompose and outgas hydrogen above +100 °C. BSTE HT combines a hermetic pyrolytic carbon + polyimide fibre coating inside a dry nitrogen-purged 316L tube so fibres operate reliably from -196 °C to +300 °C.
How does the carbon inner barrier prevent hydrogen darkening in geothermal and oil wells?
At elevated temperatures (+150 °C to +300 °C), free hydrogen ions (H₂) can diffuse through metal walls and react with germanium dopants in the silica core, causing severe attenuation at 1300–1550 nm. The 50 nm pyrolytic carbon layer hermetically seals the glass surface against H₂ ingress.
What is the standard 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) BSTE HT-1/4-PFA variant used for?
A 6.35 mm (0.250 in) outer diameter matches standard oilfield and geothermal downhole tubing clamps, blow-out preventer (BOP) pack-offs and wellhead compression fittings.
Can BSTE HT be used above +300 °C?
Yes. For reformer tubes, exhaust stacks and nuclear/solar molten-salt loops up to +650 °C, specify the BSTE HT-AU-INC model featuring gold-coated silica fibres inside an Inconel 625 tube.
