Application fit

Is 6-CHCU KON right for your machine?

Engineered for underground and open-cast 6 kV mining machinery where safety regulations mandate both individual phase screening and an overall concentric KON monitoring barrier.

Mine roadway & tunnel wall hangers

Suitable

Overall KON concentric conductor intercepts radial rock-fall or roof-bolt penetration immediately.

Trailing & towing

Suitable

Tough 5GM5 outer sheath protects the concentric KON layer during floor dragging behind shovels and shearers.

Longwall shearer & Bretby handler

Suitable

Helical KON copper wires with counter-helix equalizing tape tolerate Bretby chain flexing.

Fixed installation

Suitable

Approved for underground gallery feeders, shaft approaches, and pit substation interconnections.

Motorised monospiral reel

FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the advantage of the overall KON concentric conductor in 6-CHCU KON?
In addition to the individual metallic copper screen (C) around each 3.6/6 kV phase core, 6-CHCU KON places a full-circumference concentric copper conductor (KON) over the inner sheath. This guarantees that any external rock or tool penetrating the outer jacket contacts the grounded KON barrier first.
Can the KON concentric conductor serve as both protective earth and monitoring return?
Yes. Depending on the mine's gate-end protection relay scheme, the KON layer acts either as the primary concentric protective earth conductor or as a monitored pilot/earth-check return loop in conjunction with interstitial pilot cores. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
Is 6-CHCU KON suitable for underground as well as open-cast mining?
Yes. Because it combines flame-retardant 5GM5 polychloroprene sheathing with dual-stage screening (individual phase screens plus overall concentric KON screen), 6-CHCU KON meets safety requirements for both underground galleries and surface mine benches. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
How are the phase cores insulated for 3.6/6 kV service?
Each Class 5 tinned copper conductor is triple-extruded with an inner semi-conductive layer, a 3GI3 ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) dielectric wall, and an outer semi-conductive screen, ensuring partial discharge stays below 20 pC at 7.2 kV. Each production drum undergoes routine dielectric voltage testing, conductor DC resistance verification, and sheath dimensional inspection before dispatch with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.
