FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

What is the difference between H07G-U, H07G-R, and H07G-K under EN 50525-2-42?
All three share the same 450/750 V voltage grade and +110 °C cross-linked EVA (Type EI3) insulation, differing only in conductor stranding per IEC 60228: H07G-U uses a Class 1 solid single wire for form-holding panel routing, H07G-R uses a Class 2 rigid 7/19-wire stranded core, and H07G-K uses a Class 5 fine-stranded flexible core.
Why does H07G-U require a tinned copper conductor instead of bare copper?
At continuous operating temperatures of +110 °C and peaks up to +120 °C, bare copper accelerates thermo-oxidative degradation of elastomeric insulation and forms surface oxide film at terminals. The tin coating acts as a diffusion barrier and maintains low contact resistance in screw and push-in clamps.
Can H07G-U be operated at 600/1000 V inside switchgear cabinets?
Yes. Under EN 50565-2 and DIN VDE 0298-3 installation rules, 450/750 V harmonised EVA wires may be operated up to 600/1000 V AC when installed in protected, enclosed switchgear assemblies, luminaires, or internal appliance ducts where mechanical damage is excluded.
Is the EI3 cross-linked EVA insulation on H07G-U halogen-free?
Yes. Compound Type EI3 per EN 50363-1 is a peroxide- or electron-beam cross-linked ethylene-vinyl acetate elastomer formulated without halogens, fulfilling IEC 60754-1 and IEC 60754-2 requirements so no corrosive hydrochloric or hydrofluoric acid gases are released in a fire.
