FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

How does AcoustAlert G28 improve Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) compared to standard telecom fibre cable?
Standard loose-tube telecom cables intentionally isolate fibres from external mechanical disturbances using wide air gaps. AcoustAlert G28 eliminates internal air voids with an impedance-matched acoustic gel and tightly bonded armour/sheath layers so ground vibrations (0.5 Hz to 5 kHz) couple directly into optical phase shifts without metallic ringing.
Can AcoustAlert G28 perform both acoustic intrusion detection (DAS) and temperature leak detection (DTS)?
Yes. By choosing the hybrid G28-SWA-06SM02MM configuration (6 single-mode G.652.D fibres plus 2 multimode 50/125 µm OM3 fibres), a single buried cable supports coherent Φ-OTDR acoustic sensing on the single-mode cores and Raman DTS temperature sensing on the multimode cores.
What continuous drum lengths are supplied to minimise field splice losses on pipeline routes?
We manufacture AcoustAlert G28 in continuous splice-free lengths of 4,000 m and up to 6,000 m per drum so coherent OTDR optical budget is preserved across 50–80 km interrogator spans.
Is AcoustAlert G28 compatible with third-party Φ-OTDR DAS interrogator units?
Yes. The ITU-T G.652.D / G.657.A1 single-mode optical cores operate at 1550 nm with ≤ 0.20 dB/km attenuation and are compatible with all standard phase-sensitive OTDR and heterodyne DAS interrogators.
