When should I choose 310-PEEKM-035 PEEK wire over 301-KAPM polyimide wire in a UHV chamber?
Both PEEK and polyimide are halogen-free and outgas-qualified for 10⁻¹⁰ mbar UHV and +250 °C bakeout. Choose 310-PEEKM-035 when the wire requires seamless extruded abrasion/cut-through resistance, higher stiffness for push-through routing, or resistance to hydrolytic/steam environments where polyimide can absorb moisture.
Why is PEEK preferred over PTFE (fluoropolymer) in synchrotrons and particle accelerators?
PTFE suffers polymer chain scission and releases corrosive fluorine gas at radiation doses around 10³–10⁴ Gy. Virgin PEEK has an aromatic ketone backbone that withstands ≥ 10⁷ Gy (10⁹ rad) without embrittlement or halogen outgassing.
What do the numbers '310', 'PEEKM', and '035' signify in 310-PEEKM-035?
'310-PEEK' designates the UHV virgin PEEK-insulated wire series, 'M' denotes a multistrand (19×0.07 mm) silver-plated OFHC copper conductor, and '035' specifies the nominal 0.35 mm conductor diameter (0.55 mm overall diameter).
How is PEEK insulation stripped without nicking the 0.07 mm silver-plated copper strands?
Because PEEK is a tough semi-crystalline polymer, use precision thermal strippers set above +360 °C or calibrated die-blade mechanical strippers matched to the 0.35 mm conductor diameter.
