FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why is a PA12 nylon outer jacket used on SS-LDN linear heat detection cable?
Standard PVC or LSZH sheaths can plasticiser-leach, swell or crack when exposed to crude oil vapours, organic solvents, acid mist or intense solar UV radiation. The extruded Polyamide 12 (PA12) outer jacket seals the inner sensing core against chemical attack and outdoor weathering.
Can SS-LDN be installed in ATEX / IECEx Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous areas?
Yes. Because a passive digital linear heat detection cable contains no energy-storing capacitance or inductance beyond basic line parameters, it classifies as 'Simple Apparatus' under IEC 60079-11 Clause 5.7 when monitored through an certified Ex ia / Ex ib intrinsic safety barrier.
Which temperature grade of SS-LDN is used on floating-roof oil storage tanks?
SS-LDN-85 (85 °C alarm) or SS-LDN-105 (105 °C alarm) is typically mounted around the secondary rim seal of floating-roof crude oil and naphtha tanks, where solar radiation on steel tank plates can push surface ambient temperatures above 55–65 °C.
Does the PA12 nylon overjacket significantly slow down thermal response?
No. The PA12 extrusion has a thin, high-density wall (~0.30 mm) tightly bonded over the inner sheath, meeting the thermal response window of EN 54-28 while preventing false alarms from chemical softening.
