FAQ

Questions engineers ask first

Not covered here? Send your drawing — an engineer replies within 2 business hours.

Why does a deep-anode ICCP groundbed require a dual-layer ECTFE/HMWPE cable instead of single-layer HMWPE?
At the positive MMO or cast-iron anode in a deep borehole containing chloride ions, electrolysis generates nascent chlorine gas (Cl₂) and hydrochloric acid (HCl, pH < 1). Single-layer HMWPE is gradually chlorinated and cracked by nascent Cl₂, exposing the copper wire to rapid anodic dissolution. The inner 20 mil ECTFE fluoropolymer layer is chemically inert to Cl₂, while the outer 65 mil HMWPE layer protects the thin fluoropolymer against sharp coke-breeze abrasion.
How does ECTFE/HMWPE compare with PVDF/HMWPE cathodic protection cable?
Both use a fluoropolymer inner chlorine barrier under an HMWPE outer jacket. ECTFE (Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene, ASTM D3275) has higher impact toughness, lower specific gravity and superior resistance to cut-through and stress-cracking during cold borehole installation compared to homopolymer PVDF.
When can single-layer HMWPE cathodic protection cable be used instead of ECTFE/HMWPE?
Single-layer 110 mil HMWPE is ideal for surface header cables, negative structure return leads and shallow horizontal groundbeds where chlorine gas can vent freely and does not accumulate around the cable.
What factory routine tests and certificates are supplied with ECTFE-HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable?
Every production drum of ECTFE-HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable undergoes 100 % conductor DC resistance measurement at 20 °C, high-voltage AC/DC dielectric withstand testing, and dimensional verification per NACE SP0169 / ASTM D3275 / ASTM D1248 / UL 83, supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate.
